Midwifery and Neonatal Care

The Midwifery and Neonatal Care Department at Mount Meru Hospital presents an all-encompassing high quality as well as rationalized service to mothers and their newborns. This department is very instrumental in enhancing health outcomes during pregnancy, childbearing and during the neonatal period. The department falls under Nursing and Midwifery directorate and it has two sections.

  1. Midwifery Section

Prenatal Care: In this department, patients are seen routinely throughout the entire duration of pregnancy for various evaluations and check-ups, and special attention is paid to the well-being of both the mother and the child. There are teaching materials offered to these women so as to equip them with the necessary skills before they give birth and become mothers.

Labor and Delivery: At the time of the labor and the delivery, midwives help each woman for a safe and dignified birth. The setting is soothing and supportive and aims at the use of a birthing technique that does not field the use of pharmaceutical agents.

Postnatal Care: Right after discharge from the hospital, patients receive additional care meant to enhance their recovery. Some of the measures include breathing help, learning to breastfeed, taking care of the baby, and checking for any problems that may develop.

  1. Neonatal Care
Newborn Assessment: Immediately after a baby is born; she/he has to undergo an evaluation to determine the general health and stability. This involves checking temperature and other physiologic parameters and performing tests that may be required.
