Dr. Alex Ernest Holds Discussions with the Newly Appointed Chairperson of the Advisory Board of Mount Meru Hospital

Dr. Alex Ernest, Medical Officer In-Charge of Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital, met with the newly appointed Chairperson of the Hospital Advisory Board, Hon. Joseph George Kakunda, at Best Western Plus Arusha Hotel in Arusha.
During the introductory meeting, the two leaders discussed a range of issues related to the hospital’s development, including strengthening the delivery of healthcare services, improving operational efficiency, and continuing to enhance infrastructure and medical equipment to ensure that the public continues to receive high-quality, safe, and reliable healthcare services.
Hon. Kakunda is a distinguished economist and an experienced leader with an extensive background in public service. Over the course of his career, he has held several senior government positions, including Minister for Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Director of the Water Programme in the Ministry of Water, and Member of Parliament in the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania. His broad experience in leadership, economics, and institutional management is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening the performance of Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital.
The purpose of the meeting was to formally introduce the new Chairperson and to present him with his appointment letter as Chairperson of the Hospital Advisory Board. Both parties also underscored the importance of close collaboration between the Board and the hospital management in overseeing the institution’s development and ensuring that the goals of improving healthcare services are achieved.
Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital is one of the leading referral hospitals in northern Tanzania, serving thousands of people from the Arusha Region and neighboring areas. Through the newly established Advisory Board, the hospital expects to further strengthen systems of good governance, accountability, and effective oversight of healthcare services and resources.
The new Hospital Advisory Board, comprising nine members, is expected to be officially inaugurated in the coming days by the Minister of Health, Hon. Mohamed Mchengerwa (MP). The inauguration is expected to mark the beginning of a new era of strategic oversight and guidance that will support the hospital’s mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services to the public.
